Volodymyr Zelenskyy to visit UK and address parliament
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will visit the UK on Wednesday, meeting prime minister Rishi Sunak and addressing parliament, as Britain unveils plans to provide the war-riven country with more weaponry.
“President Zelenskyy’s visit to the UK is a testament to his country’s courage, determination and fight, and a testament to the unbreakable friendship between our two countries,” Sunak said ahead of the visit.
Downing Street has confirmed that the UK government will increase training for Ukrainian troops, ensuring that pilots have the capability to fly Nato-standard fighter jets.
The government will offer Ukraine “longer range capabilities” with the aim of reducing Russia’s ability to target critical infrastructure and civilians and will offer an “immediate training programme for marines”.
