MAFS’ John Aiken calls out a groom for ‘gas lighting’ their bride in a dramatic new teaser

‘It’s toxic and needs to stop’: Married At First Sight expert John Aiken calls out ‘gaslighting’ grooms in a trailer for Sunday’s commitment ceremony

A new trailer for Sunday’s episode of Married At First Sight teases a reckoning for the show’s manipulative grooms.

At the commitment ceremony, relationship expert John Aiken will accuse one of the men – possibly James Susler or Bryce Ruthven – of ‘gaslighting’ their spouse.

‘That behaviour is gaslighting, it is toxic and is something that needs to stop,’ John says, addressing the man in question in front of the entire cast.

Meanwhile, MAFS’ new expert Alessandra Rampolla can be seen having a go at James after he called Belinda Vickers a ‘frigid virgin.’

‘Do you realise how demeaning referring to a woman as frigid is?’ Alessandra says.

Meanwhile Joanne unleashes on James in the clip, saying: ‘You are talking rubbish.’

During Wednesday’s episode of the show at the dinner party, Belinda got into a tense confrontation with James, 44, while defending his wife, Joanne.

An angry Belinda accused James of being ‘so controlling’, and told him he’d been treating Joanne, 39, ‘like absolute s**t’.

‘I’ve actually heard that you’ve been talking about me behind my back as well… Apparently I’m a frigid. You called me a frigid,’ Belinda, 29, continued.

While James didn’t deny making the offensive remark, he argued that he’d posed it as a question, not a comment.

Watching the conversation play out from across the table, Belinda’s ‘husband’ Patrick, 27, was seen becoming increasingly agitated as James traded insults with his ‘wife’.

‘Did you not just hear me before? I said how offensive that was!’ continued a seething Belinda.

‘Can you not see that, James? Say sorry,’ added an incensed Patrick.

After spitting out a quick ‘sorry’, Patrick told James he needed to do better than that.

‘That’s not a sorry. That’s not a sorry at all, James! Say sorry to her,’ he shouted, prompting an insolent James to splutter, ‘I just did.’

After a few tense moments, James finally said: ‘I’m actually sorry… I didn’t realise it actually hurt you. I’m actually sorry about that. I really am. It’s not personal.’
