Sherri Shepherd steps back from hosting The Wendy Williams Show as she recovers from emergency surgery for appendicitis
Sherri Shepherd will be stepping back from guest hosting The Wendy Williams Show after undergoing emergency surgery for appendicitis.
‘Due to appendicitis, Sherri Shepherd underwent an emergency surgery yesterday. The procedure was successful and Ms. Shepherd is doing fine and resting,’ read a statement provided to Deadline by Shepherd’s publicist.
‘She is absolutely devastated that she will not be able to guest host The Wendy Williams Show today, but she is following doctors orders and expected to make a full recovery. Thank you all for understanding and respecting her privacy.’

Comedian Michael Rapaport will be filling in in her place. Shepherd, 54, hopes to return to hosting later in the week, a spokesperson for the show told Deadline.
While hosting the show on Monday, Michael wished Sherri a speedy recovery as he updated audience members on the situation.
‘Sherri was supposed to host today, unfortunately she had appendicitis. She’s fine, she is fine. She had to go to the hospital last night for some emergency surgery. She’s feeling fine today and she is resting. Get well soon Sherri,’ Michael said.
Sherri was set to guest host the show from December 13-17. She also is scheduled to return as a guest host for January 24 to 28.

The Everybody Loves Raymond actress is just one of many stars who have been filling in for Wendy during her health battle with various medical issues relating to Graves’ disease.
Last week, the show announced the talk show series would be returning in 2022 without its beloved host.
In a social media post from the show’s official account, Fat Joe, Remy Ma, Michael Rapaport, Kym Whitley, Finesse Mitchell and Sherri were listed as guest hosts for the start of 2022.
This comes after sources close to production have been intimating that Wendy may never return as host amid her health woes.

The image shared alongside featured images of the aforementioned guest hosts. There was no mention of Wendy herself or any idea of when she might be back.
This crop of guest hosts will take the show through January 28 with February and beyond up in the air.
‘Even if she did come back, she’d be a lame duck because her show isn’t renewed beyond this season,’ a source told Page Six.
Sherri, who has guest hosted the show before, is being seen as the top choice to replace Wendy permanently.
