Thousands of customers hit by mobile app and online banking outages 


Sky Broadband outage leaves thousands of NatWest, RBS, Lloyds and Halifax customers unable to use mobile app and online banking

  • Customers with some of Britain’s biggest banks reported problems this morning
  • Santander appeared worst hit with more than 900 reports on Downdetector
  • Frustrated customers have taken to social media to report woes this morning 


A Sky Broadband outage has left thousands of customers with some of Britain’s biggest banks unable to use mobile apps and online banking and struggling to work from home.

Santander, NatWest, RBS, Lloyds, HSBC, and Halifax are all among the lenders affected this morning, with issues first being widely reported at around 5am.

Santander appeared worst hit with more than 900 reports made at around 8am according to complaints tracker, Downdetector. 

Sky itself had more than 1,000 reports made via Downdetector at around 9am. 

Dozens of frustrated customers took to social media this morning to report their woes. 

Thousands of customers with some of Britain’s biggest banks have been hit by outages online and on mobile apps

One wrote: ‘Is there an issue with sky broadband this morning? It is failing to connect to a number of webpages including my work homepage so I cannot work from home.

Another tweeted: ‘NOT HELPFUL THAT I CANNOT USE WIFI THIS MORNING. CANNOT ACCESS MY BANK!!!’

A third added: ‘Sky Help Team, the problem is with near everyone, there are hundreds of people on Twitter saying that they cannot access sites using Sky Broadband.’ 

Many banking customers reported an error message that their session had timed out, and that the server was not responding. 

Meanwhile, TSB received more than 460 reports, more than 270 were made with First Direct, more than 330 with HSBC and dozens more from other high street giants.
